Choice Bar & Restaurant Voted one of the top ten places to dine by the riverside by the Sunday Times, you’ll find Choice tucked away in a corner of Castlefield. The look is smart - cream leather seating, burgundy carpet and the exposed brick walls of the warehouse it once was. A friendly place, it prides itself on excellent food, wine and staff. Favourite staples of the largely seasonal menu are cottage pie, and Cumbrian lamb with colcannon potato and garlic and rosemary sauce. Excellent daily fish specials. Unusually, you can chose your wine from the walk in wine fridge. Occasional live piano music makes for even more atmosphere. Best table for two is number 17, by the arched window. A genuine destination restaurant. Cuisine: British Location: Castle Quay, Castlefield, Manchester, M15 4NT [Map] |

Linen Set in Manchester’s very first luxury gaming, dining and music venue; Linen couldn’t be further from the typically cheesy Las Vegas-style restaurant you might expect. Beautifully designed, Linen is elegant and unpretentious with a sexy, boudoir feel thanks to gorgeous wallpaper and monochrome furniture. The food here is of an exceptionally high quality, changing monthly to reflect the seasons and fusing traditional British ingredients with international ideas to produce a mouth watering selection of dishes which will impress any food fanatic. We love the chilli beef noodle salad; the loin of venison with sherry and honey dressing; and their pecan tart – ideally washed down by one of their decadent dessert cocktails. Mr Thomas's Chop House The New York Times referred to Mr Thomas’s Chop House as ‘probably Manchester’s most venerable pub’. It’s quite something to live up to but, judging by the popularity of this historic pub, the Mr Thomas’s team aren’t struggling to manage. Established in 1867 this historic spot is full of charm and atmosphere, with tiled floors and dark wood bar harking back to Victorian times and the down to earth staff reminding punters exactly what good pub service is too. Offering typically British food, created using the best local ingredients, Mr Thomas’s is a study in modern UK dining – the old favourites from mother’s table are all there, true comfort food with a dash of sophistication and a pint of excellent real ale to wash it down too. Sam’s Chop House A long time Manchester institution, Sam’s Chop House led the way for new gastropubs in the North West. As much a local icon as a Gallagher or a City player, Sam’s is built on good old fashioned Northern charm with a little splash of Dickensian style thrown in for good measure. Victorian-esque caricatures of the locals adorn panelled walls, the furnishings are straight out of an old-school pub and the atmosphere is ten times as warm and welcoming as you could ever expect from any other city centre bar, a locals spot where everyone is invited to join the party. Seasonal, made to order dishes reflect the best of the region’s produce – Sam’s Chop House is serious about good British food – while an impressive wine list and even an in house ale completes the picture of the perfect pub-restaurant.
