Alto
The informal Alto is the dress down dining option here at the rather glamorous Radisson Edwardian Hotel in Manchester. Situated in probably the city’s most famous building - the Free Trade Hall, variously host to Ella Fitzgerald, Winston Churchill, Bob Dylan, the Sex Pistols, Oscar Wilde and Joy Division - the Radisson retains much historical atmosphere with artefacts saved during the renovation from hall to hotel displayed throughout. Alto itself is a modern addition to the building, a sophisticated setting for dining and drinking, low lit by oversized light fixtures, decorated in easy, neutral tones and comfortably furnished. As popular during the day as at night, Alto, with its floor to ceiling windows bringing in the maximum of light, offers an airy, bustling atmosphere for lunches and breakfasts, becoming more intimate of an evening in typical brasserie style. Al fresco dining is available in summer with tables spilling out on to a terrace just made for people watching. The best of British is used throughout the menu with favourite homey dishes given a chic twist by the kitchen’s dedicated chefs. Alto’s monthly Jazz Supper Club is a must for muso-foodies seeking an evening with a difference.
